Trades  training at the College of New Caledonia has received a big financial boost.  The Province  is pumping $1.2 million dollars into the College to  add another 462  trades training seats.

The additional funding will allow the College to address the waiting list for a variety of programs, and to add new classes to its trades training roster.

The funding wil be dispersed to  various CNC Apprenticeship  programs at campuses  throughout  the region:

  • Prince George, will  get 190 new seats
  • Quesnel will get 80
  • Vanderhoof will  add 32
  • Burns Lake  will  get 48  and
  • Mackenzie will get 16 new seats.

The apprenticeship programs  cover programs such as carpentry, electrical and welding.

The balance will be  distributed among  "entry level" or Foundation trades training, such as cooking, in the following manner

  • Quesnel 48 entry level seats
  • Burns Lake 16
  • Vanderhoof 16
  • Mackenzie 16

CNC President John Bowman says  all the seats  will be  open and ready  this September, and all of them are already  filled.

The additional programs  will require 6-8  new instructor positions. There are about 1,200 students currently enrolled in CNC trades programs.

Good news for those that are looking to re-train or enter the work force for the first time. I wonder how long the wait list will be in October?

We need more framers in PG (carpentry) there are only a few good ones currently working in town. More supply will equal less demand and hopefully house prices will come down a bit.
