Northern B.C. Junior Golf Tour opens at Prince George Golf & Curling Club

Prince George juniors led the way on their home course in the opening 18-hole event of the Remax Northern B.C. Junior Golf Tour. Fourteen year-old Jon Strasdin recorded the best round, one over-par 72 in the Scotia Bank Classic at the Prince George Golf and Culing Club. Michael Morris and Blair Anderson shared second place, a stroke behind Strasdin.  Jessey Church topped the second division low gross honours. The second year of the northern junior tour features eight events. Aberdeen Glen and Aspen Grove golf courses complete the Prince George venues of the tour. Juniors will also compete in Williams Lake and Quesnel before the tour finale in early September at the Prince George Golf and Curling Club.

“The tour is a great idea, it gives us juniors a chance for more competition in the north,” said Jon Strasdin in praising his second year of the tour.

Juniors must have a valid RCGA signed handicap card with a current handicap of 30.0 or lower to be eligible for tour play. The tourney schedule will include the junior open championships for Prince George, Quesnel and Williams Lake.

“We changed the structure to increase participation in those events,” said Northern B.C. Junior Golf Tour Director Jeff Wiggins. “The tour will include clinics and player development opportunities as well as providing financial assistance to players making the provincial teams.”

The top two point leaders for each age group after the second tour event will receive automatic exemptions for zone golf teams. Williams Lake is home to the second tour event on June 3.
