Is Jimmy Pattison fishing around looking for a US partner in Canfor? Or is Canfor looking to buy a US based company to turn itself around and send the price of its shares on a new upswing?
Canfor has now resigned from the Council of Forests. That group has been the back bone of the fight to over turn the softwood lumber duties at the US border. By bowing out of the group, Canfor could now pick up a US company and by so doing, get the gravy from both sides of the border.
If the US holds firm in not returning the $5 billion in tariffs collected so far (Canfor has paid 1 billion bucks worth) then Canfor, hooking up with a major US player ,could receive those tariffs back on the US side.
By now Jimmy has no doubt told the Canfor Brass, sell, buy or do something to turn this place around or I’ll have to look over my people.
IP&P would no doubt like the forest tenure of Canfor which would give them both worlds. They are the largest in the world and to pick off Canfor would not be a difficult task.
In the end where there is smoke, there is generally fire and in the next few months we will no doubt see some of those flames.
I’m Meisner, and that, is one man’s opinion.

Unless of course they wish to reject the rule of law and all that implies.

PS Its sad that the Canadian governemtn is not taking this violation of NAFTA more seriously, because otherwise we are simply no better then a subservant colony of America with little to no rights as a country, corporation or citizen under the Canadian flag. I think that is sad that we would surrender our sovereignty without so much as a small apperence of a fight from our so-called governing team Canada Liberal Party.
