Members of the BCGEU have  set up  their picket line at the Yellowhead Road and Bridge  office on the Hart Highway in Prince George.

This is the second day of rotating strike action against  YRB, yesterday the picket lines were up in Bear Lake.

There are 96 employees  for  "service area 19" which covers over 3,000 kilometres of highways and roads in Prince George, Mackenzie and the Yellowhead Highway.

On April 26 they voted 95% in favour of strike action.

The Union has been  without a contract  since October.  The latest wage offer was .27 % a year over a multi-year contract.  It was an offer one  union rep called "insulting".

"Our negotiators are prepared to go back to the table when YRB comes to us with a reasonable offer that would help us reach a fair collective agreement," said George Heyman, BCGEU president.

The union has negotiated essential service levels and will respond to any emergencies.

Sounds about right to me. Front line workers who keep our highways safe are offered .27% while politicians who sit in Victoria at least 6 weeks a year vote themselves 28% plus pension. Give your head a shake people.
I agree.... .27% is insulting.... especially considering their jobs are a lot more relevant than those seat warmers in Victoria
Who earns more money? MLA's or dump truck drivers?
In the middle of a cold winter night, I'd pay for a clear highway rather than an overstuffed politician in victoria
