Dr. John Stefanelli, a  Pathologist from Kamloops, has testified at the Coroner’s Inquest in Houston that the earlier a body arrives for an autopsy the better.

Bush was shot on the night of October 29th; his body arrived in Kamloops for the autopsy on November 1st.

Stefanelli  said it seemed to take a long time for Ian Bush’s body to arrive from Houston. He said, as the body decomposes, it becomes more difficult to distinguish a bruise. At issue was a large bruise that Bush had near his testicles and another at the front of his head in the eye brow region.

Dr Stefanelli said  two possibilities exist for the facial bruise, one that the bullet fired into the back of Bush’s head had created it, and two, it was the result of a blow.  He said he leaned towards the bullet theory.

As for the second bruise, in the groin, Stefanelle said he simply forgot to write down what he thought caused it.

Asked by the family counsel ,Howard Rubin, if in custody deaths should receive a more thorough examination, the pathologist said "Yes, the police gave me what I thought they had".

He also testified the two police officers who brought the body to Kamloops stood around during the autopsy speculating on how Bush had been shot. "Some things, I  thought were more likely than others but I didn’t pay much attention to them."  He concluded by saying "How people think things could have happened could be wrong. "
