The new CEO for Northern Health is Cathy Ulrich.    (shown at right)

She has been with Northern Health since 2002 in the capacity of Vice President of Clinical Services.  Ulrich has  been a key  player in the  development of many programs which  shift  away from acute care services and towards preventive measures.

Ulrich says  former CEO Malcolm Maxwell has left some pretty big shoes to fill and she is grateful for leadership and the work he has  done in the past  five years.  Maxwell leaves at the end of June to take on  an administrative position with a hospital in Ontario.

She says she is a strong supporter of making sure  people in the north have the kind of cancer care they need, but fell short of saying she  stands behind the development of a cancer care  treatment centre  in the north.

Ulrich’s new job will pay her $230 thousand dollars a year.

Tough position to be in. She will be the official mouthpiece for the BCLiberals and thus be responsible for trying to make the underfunding of our health system look acceptable and necessary despite the reality of its being a sham to privatize healthcare. Hope she has her tap shoes ready. I predict she will not last a year but at $230,000 a year she will have a nice little nest egg.
If anyone can make Northern Health better, Ulrich can. She is a no-nonsense person, one of the least political in administration. She is well-educated and has worked her way up through the ranks.

I also like that Northern Health chose someone from inside - something they have not done before. The three previous CEOs have all come from other places, recruited to do the job here. And then they leave.

Ms. Ulrich has a family here, children she has raised, and I think she is well recepted in the medical community. She has my vote, and no we're not related!
Just read the same story in Friday's Citizen and it would seem that the Citizen's political friends have managed to keep certain facts from the public. Nowhere in the article does it say that Ms. Ulrich's annual wage will be $230,000. That's but a pitance for the job she is doing. Maybe she could hitch her wagon to the 28% raise the MLA's are going to get. That wage is obscene. Thanks to 250 for putting ALL the facts out there. Keep up the good work.
