Carney Hill to Host New StrongStart Program

The Prince George school district has been awarded a second StrongStart BC early learning centre to help preschool age children get ready for kindergarten.

The program will be located at Carney Hill Elementary.

Prince George Mount Robson MLA and Deputy Premier Shirley Bond  says  the expansionis part of  of a province  wide  increase "The centres present new
opportunities for parents, other adult family members or caregivers to get involved in their child's learning and education before they begin their formal schooling."

Undet the StrongStart program, underutilized school space is used  to offer a free drop-in program for parents or caregivers and their children. Qualified early childhood educators lead learning activities, including stories, music and art to help children grow linguistically, physically andsocially, and become comfortable in a school-like environment.

Provncial stats indicate that one in four children entering kindergarten is not developmentally ready to start school.  The StrongStart programs are  designed to  better prepare  children for  school.
