A 44 year old Prince George Wooman is in hospital  with serious injuries after the vehicle she was driving collided with a moose at about 10:30 last night.

Fort George Traffic Services Sergeant Pat McTiernan says the  woman was driving her 2005 Chevrolet Cavier northbound near Buckhorn Road when a young moose stepped on the highway from the  east side. The Cavalier hit the moose, and it slammed into the windshield.

The collision caused the driver to lose control, swerve to the left and  into the southbound ditch.

The  woman was the lone occupant in the car at the time of the crash and was wearing her seatbelt.

The highway was closed for several hours last night  from  about 10:30 until  2:30 this morning as investigators   worked at the scene. Police say their investigation at this point would indicate alcohol was not a factor.

Police  are hoping anyone with any information on the crash will contact them at the  Fraser Fort George  Traffic Services Unit at 250 -649-4004 or Crime Stoppers.

Why in the h--- would a road have to be closed for 4 hours to investigate a car hitting a moose. Maybe it's time that the RCMP started to question their own abilities as there is no way that these endless and unnecessary road closures should happen after virtually every accident no matter how minor.
No wonder our policing costs keep going up with no improvement in real crime prevention.
I wonder just how many officers and police cars were on hand at that accident scene? My guess is at least 4.
Typical moose, all long face and not saying anytrhing. Seriously, I hopeshe is all right.
I hear you guys..and although REALIST is a bit of a smart ass......I'm with you...I hope she's okay. Hitting a moose is like hitting a brick wall...I know.
I think cops love closing highways for hours on end. Don't bother to advertise the fact and try to take a detour. Car hits moose, end of story. I hope the lady recovers quickly.
If it looked like it could have turned into a fatal mva due to the severity of the injuries then the analyst wouild have been called out to take measurements. That is the reason why the road would have been closed.
Just for your infomation she died the lady involved in the car accident with the moose. She was on her way to pick her son and his girlfriend up from their grad and drive them to the after party......she never made it she leaves behind 3 children aged 8, 10 and 18 and a husband together since age 16 her name was Peggy. She will be missed greatly by all that new her.
Very sad, my sincere condolences.
