Highway 16 Closed Near Terrace

Highway 16 is closed  37 km east of   the junction with highway 37 south.  There has been a significant landslide.    There is no indication at this point  if there are any vehicles under the  slide.

It will be some time before  the road will be re-opened.

The  side of the hill came down  around 8:30 this morning,

Geotechnical experts  are  heading to the scene to evaluate the situation and see if it is possible to  start removing  the debris..

That is sure alot of mud and debris.
CBC reported this would close the highway till at least the end of the day. Yeah right. End of the week maybe!

We just missed the one up there a couple of years ago..we had to wait for the road to open..what a mess.
Was the CN rail line affected?
Doesn't appear it was but wait for it...it will be.
And watch what that does to the Port of Prince Rupert.
It's only a matter of time.
