City crews are making sure the intake and discharge valves of a new portable pump will match up with the existing fixture.

Workers with the City of Prince George Utilities division are gettingready, just in case.  A new pump has arrived, and crews have been making  sure intake and discharge match up with the old one.

Supervisor of City of Prince George Utilities Division, Kevin Sanregret says the new pump is more portable than the old one.  “That Old pump dates back to 1940 and while it works well, it is getting very difficult to find replacement parts for it, so if there was a problem, we could have really have some difficulty in getting it back up and running in a timely manner.”

Sanregret says the new pump will be on stand by for this spring just in case there is a need to pump water from a flood area, but next year it will be the one doing the real work at the site of the old pump.

Always the same story, the manufacturers make the good old machinery obselete, so you have to buy a new one. The new one is not built as well as the old one, so does not last as long. Then you have to buy a new one, 'cause the old one is crappy AND obselete.
Repeat.
