For the first time since a slide   buried Highway 16 west  about 37  kilometers east of Terrace, there is a plan to have at least a partial opening of the highway.

"The work will continue" says Ministry of Transportation  spokesman Jeff Knight "but we are  going to set three opportunities toorrow for  single lane alternating traffic through the area".

Those  three  windows of opportunity are set for :

  • 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.
  • 2p.m. to 3 p.m. and
  • 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

"We will be able to give another update on Friday" says Knight.

Monday morning, 25 thousand cubic metres of debris  buried the highway.  Crews have been working from dawn till dark trying to re-open the roadway but their work has been hampered by  further slides brought on by  heavy rains.
