Sludge Hampers Slide Clean Up
By 250 News
Work continues at the site of the slide 37 kilometers east of Terrace, but there is still no word on when crews may be able to have one lane open.
"There have been surges of mud and water that have hampered the work" says Ministry of Transportation spokesman Jeff Knight. "Overall, we are making progress, but we are not yet in a position where we would feel comfortable estimating when we might have a lane open."
The slide on Monday dumped 25 thousand cubic metres of mud, rock , trees and debris on to the highway. The only detour would take four hours and would require driving a 55 kms stretch of single lane active logging road. While the detour is available, the Ministry of Transportation is not recommending it be used.
