June 13th is the day  residents of Prince George  can learn more about the plans for the Backpacker Motel on Queensway.

The Native Friendship Centre  Society has been  given the  contract to provide services at what is to be "Friendship Lodge."  It will be a 30-unit apartment building for adults who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and working toward managing mental health and addiction issues.

The Prince George Native Friendship Centre Society is now organizing a development and design team and will develop a more detailed budget. The design team includes Boni-Maddison Architects.

There will be two information sessions on the 13th of June.  The first is set for  3:30 to 5:00, there is a break for dinner, and the second session will start at 5:30 and run  to 7:30.

The application to rezone the property has already been filed with the City of Prince George. That application has not yet  come before City Council.

Does anyone really believe that this project will get tubed if there is too much opposition?
This is a done deal, and an "information" session is a waste of the public's time.
Sure, most agree something is needed, but unfortunately this is NOT it.
There goes the neighbourhood and property values.
Wait and see what this red herring becomes down the road.
Residents of the area need to remember this at election time and keep track as to who is the big drive behind it all.
And vote them out!!
Thanks Andyfreeze, you seem to be the only that one can see things as they really are. Even though the Backpacker site is not zoned for this I know what it really will be. In my opinion It will be a Drug Rehab for young people from all over the Province mainly first nation youth and thats what is going to be going in and out and into the neighborhood and downtown. What happens to the bad apples that could come here, thats what Prince George needs, more problems. I think this project is geared more toward drug rehab than to the Homeless. We know its a done deal. Isn't it sad when our MLAs and Council won't listen to the people this is going to affect why can't they be honest with us. They are putting us at risk.
The INfo. session is a waste of money mainly because of where is is being held. Residents do not want to go where they are not wanted.
It should be held in one of the Seniors Centers Whos paying for lunch for who??
IMO,you have probably got it right "bitter"!
Unfortunately, there is not much can be done to stop it at this stage.
Hopefully, this place will devour itself in short order and the residents will get their neighbourhood back!
It's not going to be pretty!
In the meantime,it will likely cause a lot of red faces and denial about who actually supported this monster down at cityhall.
And it WILL become a mainly a first nations drop-in center for druggies and drunks.
How can it not?
If it is run by the Native Friendship Center Society, who will they favour?
Who decides who stays and who goes?
Hopefully, this disgrace will be remembered at election time, locally and provincially!
But I doubt it.
Attend the meeting? Too many potholes to deal with and expensive gas to buy. Besides I haven't checked to see what is on the tube that night. Ho hum. I will wait and see what happens then I will bitch and complain. Cause that is the way it works in this country. Right?
