Roads Closed Because of Flooding in Northwest

Recent high water levels have forced closure of several roads in the Bulkley-Nechako Regional District.

These areas include:
* 22nd Avenue- Ebeneezer Flats
* Cedarvale-Kitwanga backroad at km. 0.5
* Hazelton-Kitwanga backroad at km 15.

Highway 16, 37 kilometres east of Terrace, remains closed with scheduled  single-lane openings. Updated highway information is available at

Earlier today, the River Forecast Centre issued flood warnings for the Bulkley River at Smithers and the Skeena River at Terrace and Hazelton and the Nass River above Shumal Creek.

Flooding is occurring along unprotected sections of the Skeena and Nass valleys, and localized flooding has occurred in Terrace and Smithers.
Water levels are expected to rise with rain in the forecast through to Wednesday.
