Solicitor General John Les, who is also responsible for Public Safety, is in Prince George this morning to get a first hand look at the flooding of the Fraser River.

Les will be at City Hall this morning to  get an update on the flood preparations and emergency command, and will then tour the areas already hit by the rising Fraser River.

Last evening, Paddlewheel Park  had a social atmosphere as  locals headed to the park to see for themselves, just what was happening with the Fraser.  Richard Lear  (at right) is one of the  people who lives in the immediate area of the park.  He sat on the river bank, watching the Fraser  rush past.

Had he  enforced his property with sandbags? "Nah" said Lear, "What's the point? If the water's gonna come, it's gonna come.  I mean,  my basement isn't fnished, and I will have to  let it dry out, that's all I can do."

Lear  wasn't the only one who seemed to have a "take what comes" attitude.  At the end of Farrell Crescent, the City had  provided  sand, and sandbags, but  there  was still plenty of both available for anyone who wanted it.

Last fall, Opinion 250 took this misty bridge photo on the left.  That same stretch of bridge  last evening ( shown on right)  is a vivid  comparison of how much water has come through!

Cool photo!
Wonder how much the coffee company is paying him to hold the CUP OF COFFEE in the picture....Liberals do not do any for free
I did not realize Richard Lear was a member of the Liberal Party of Canada, or a BC Liberal.

I don't recognize the logo on the cup. Does not look like the place I buy my latte from. Besides, I hate plasticized paper cups.

He should have held it up a bit closer to the camera.

;-)
There's a spanking new $400 million strata land housing development in Langley that is threatened by the floods. They upped the standard for flood protection in that area by one metre.

The newspaper reported that officials are blaming the MPB for the amount of flooding this year. I wonder how they are explaining the flooding in watersheds which collect runoffs non-beetle killed parts of the province.

I can just see Langley going after federal MPB money. Good luck!
