The  Regional District of Fraser Fort George is advising  residents living  in Foreman Flats and Shelley Townsite of the  imminent threat of flooding along the Fraser River and its tributaries in these areas.

The Fraser River is now above flood level and more water is expected to enter the Fraser River throughout  today and tomorrow.

The next 24 hour period is critical in the on-going assessment and planning for this high water event. River conditions may unexpectedly change and make it necessary for the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George to require the immediate evacuation of these two areas to ensure the personal safety of our residents and front line responders.

Residents of Foreman Flats and the Shelley Townsite are asked to prepare themselves in the event that an evacuation is required and immediately take the following actions to help prevent damage to their homes, properties and to prepare for their personal safety:

- move equipment and farm implements to higher ground;

- make arrangements for pets and livestock to be moved to safe locations;

- gather important papers in water-tight containers and move valuables to

alternate locations; and

- prepare a 72-hour personal survival kit for you and your family.

The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George’s Emergency Operations Centre is open and will provide resources and/or assistance to residents regarding flood awareness and preparedness.

The public is asked to visit the RDFFG website www.rdffg.bc.ca  for updated flood information or to call the  Emergency Operations Centre directly at the following numbers for assistance.
