Another Area Under State of Local Emergency
By 250 News
The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George has issued a Declaration of a State of Local Emergency for Electoral Area H , the Robson Valley. As was the case with Prince George, the declaration will allow the Regional District to construct dikes, evacuate areas, or close roads.
While a state of emergency has been declared in the Robson Valley, there is no evacuation ordered . The Regional District says there is imminent threat for flooding of properties and infrastructure on Mountainview Road and River Road.
There is also the continued threat of further debris torrents on the Raush Valley Road and the areas immediately surrounding the Dore River. "There is a debris jam upstream on the Dore River " says Finlay Sinclair, Information Services for the Regional District "We are trying to assess that situation."
The waters are at high levels throughout the Robson Valley, and while there is no immediate threat to homes, Sinclair says the water levels could leave some people stranded.
The next 24 hour period is critical in the on-going assessment and planning for these areas.
This declaration is in addition to the declarations already issued for Area "F" in the Shelley area, with evacuation alerts issued for Forman Flats and the Shelley area.
The public is asked to visit the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George’s website www.rdffg.bc.ca for updated flood information or to call the Emergency Operations Centre directly at the following numbers.
