Changes are coming in the BC Hockey League playoff format for the 2007-2008 junior A season. More importance is placed in the regular season with a total of four teams, two each in the Interior and Coastal Conference missing the post-season. The first and second place team in each 8-team conference will receive first-round playoff byes. The opening play-off round is a best-of-five series with 3rd place against 6th place and 4th place against 5th place. Last season, 16 of the 17 BCHL teams qualified for the playoffs, a format that included no byes with every series best-of-seven-affairs. The Prince George Spruce Kings 60-game regular season schedule will be confirmed next month. In other news from the BCHL league meetings, long-time Spruce Kings governor and past-president Adrian Vander - Velden was named BCHL executive of the year.
