Less than a week after the Prince George Regional Hospital lost two thirds of  its electrical supply because of  a switching system,  there is another problem.

One of the two back up generators which were put in use to provide power to the hospital, went off line briefly this morning.  Hospital spokesman Mark Karjaluoto says  it is suspected there is a problem with a sensor,  he cannot confirm if the  off line generator was overheating.

When asked what confidence the public can have when there are two problems in one week, Karjaluoto responded “We told people last Friday that one generator will back up the other, and that is what is happening, so the system is working. We are throwing all available resources at rectifying this problem. A reliable electrical system is critical to the operations of the hospital.”
The hospital took a precautionary measure this morning in taking some areas of the building offline. That was done, says Karjaluoto, “To reduce the load on the second generator.”

Information gathered  by Opinion250  indicates half a dozen surgeries were put on hold until the  power situation could be corrected, but are now going ahead as scheduled.

When the power was lost last week,  all  non-emergency surgeries had to be cancelled.

So, not a good time to be sick in Prince George? LOL
Without being too nosey, just what is causing the problem? Badly engineered, poor workmanship during installation of the system, not enough maintenance of the system or not enough money to do any of the above properly? This situation is not one that should be brushed aside. It could mean that lives are at stake. No time for public consultation and all the other political BS; let's just get it fixed and running properly.
