There is no crossing this bridge over Stoney Creek in Vanderhoof near the Riverside Park!

Last week, Alcan  advised  the community of Vanderhoof it had  released more water from the Kenny Dam at  the Skins Lake Spillway because the water level in the reservoir was inching ever higher.

The Nechako flow has now increased.  As of last night it was 4.814 metres.

A mobile home park on the north side of the river is seeing water levels of the Nechako  rise ( photo at right)

While in the photo below left, the  dugout at the Babe Ruth Ball Diamonds, is a washout!

Fraser river is not a managed river, yet no problems. Nechako river is a so-called managed river, and yet we will have flooding problems?

I say BC Hydro should be tasked with managing all watersheds in the province. The decision control over the kemano water flows should be the sole responsibility of the provincial utility and not a bunch of foreign profiteers.

The watershed has many stakeholders beyond the foreign profiteers, such as the resident citizens that live along the shores of the Nechako and Fraser rivers, fisheries, and other land use stakeholders that should have a say in how the watershed is managed.
Not to mention the future "stakeholders" that can hardly wait for the water level to go down enuf to start building a nice big home on the riverbank, sheesh
IN MY HUMBLE OPINION--ALCAN IS CREATING AN "ALCAN ENGINEERED SENARIO " SO AS TO GIVE THE IMPRESSION THAT WE HAVE A HUGE POTENTIAL FLOOD PROBLEM. THIS WILL AID THEM IN REAPPROACHING AND LOBBYING FOR THE CONTINUATION OF THE K2 POWER PROJECT. THIS PROJECT MUST NEVER GO AHEAD.(IMO). IT WOULD BE A TOTAL DISASTER FOR THE ENTIRE KENNY DAM RESEVOIR. THIS WATERSHED HAS BEEN RESONABLY STABLE,AS A RESULT OF WATER FLUCTUATION, FOR THE PAST 15 TO 20 YEARS. IT IS A GREAT WATERWAY AND SHOULD REMAIN TO BE, WITHOUT THE MANIPULATION OF ALCAN. I AGREE WITH CHADERMANDO..LET B.C.HYDRO MANAGE IT.MAYBEE THEN THE PEOPLE WHO OWN THE WATER WOULD HAVE A SAY IN ITS FUTURE.
