"Increasing spaces to train additional (home support and residential) care workers supports the Province's commitment to building 5,000 net new beds and units for seniors by the end of 2008," says Health Minister George Abbott.

The provincial government has announced 213 new seats will be split among eight post-secondary institutions across the province.  Also included in the Liberal's $9-million dollar investment is loan reduction funding and enhanced training initiatives.

In the northern half of the province, Northwest Community College - with campuses in communities like Smithers, Terrace, and Prince Rupert -- will receive 11 of those seats.  While Northern Lights College, based in Dawson Creek, will have eight new seats designated for Aboriginal students.

In making the announcement, Abbott says, "More health-care workers in a home support capacity will help meet the needs of our increasing senior population."

All the beds in the world won't help a bit if they don't have the staff.
That's the point the liberals are missing.
As much as I would like to see it happen,it seems more like a crumb to shut people up.
And the end of 2008 is a long ways off yet.
I also think if it DOES get done,it will have to happen BEFORE 2009-2010 or forget it.
There will be a major cash shortage just before and after the Olympics.
Just watch.
