ICBC's Christine Silver presents cheque to Bob MacIntosh, WL Community Policing Society

Auto crime was up 43-percent in Williams Lake last year, compared to previous years.

ICBC's Loss Prevention Coordinator for the North Central region, Christine Silver, says 90 vehicles were stolen in the community.

In presenting the Williams Lake Community Policing Society with a cheque for $4000.00, Silver says ICBC knows it cannot fight crime alone.

"These people work extremely hard in the fight against auto crime," says Silver.  "They are dedicated volunteers who have a tremendous impact on crime by reporting suspicious activity, monitoring and reporting speeding vehicles and performing parking lot audits.  ICBC is extremely grateful for their particiipation."

BC has gained the uneviable reputation in recent years as having one of the highest auto crime rates in the country. In 2005, in the North Central region there were 900 vehicle thefts, 700 vehicle break-ins, and 1,000 incidents of vandalism.
