CN train at rest in the rail yard on First Avenue in Prince George

As part of CN Rail’s Inland Container Port project in Prince George, the company has begun working to ready the line to Prince Rupert for the 12,000-foot double stacked trains.

General Manager of the Mountain Region, Tom Bourgonje, says, "We’ve got two bridges that we have to work on extending the clearances and we also have a crossing overpass that we’re potentially looking at in Smithers."

Bourgonje says there are approximately nine tunnels that need the clearance increased, as well, so contractors are already at work.

"There’s quite a bit of work that has to be put into it, but it’s all on-track...for an October 1st opening."

Duhhhhh?
My understanding is that one of the key
companies supplying the steel trackage has been in town for several months.

So, old news I would think. The news for here would be some dollars attached to the work and approximately where it is being spent ... you know, the economic benefit to this community and any others along the track.

It is good to see it is all "on track". I would hope that it was not off track.

Even trains need a rest every now and then.
