The Tampa Bay Lightning selected Prince George Cougars centre Dana Tyrell in the second round, 47^th overall of the NHL entry draft in Columbus Ohio. The 18-year-old, who scored 30 goals in his second WHL season, is the second highest drafted forward in Prince George Cougar history. The New York Rangers Blair Betts was chosen 33^rd overall by the Calgary Flames in the second round of the 1998 NHL entry draft.
