Three to Four year-old PGYSA players enjoy a first year of soccer

Like a swarm of bees chasing a pot of honey, 3 to 4 year-olds run to the soccer ball. An inevitable meeting of ball and little people produces cheers and laughter from the sidelines.  Welcome to the inaugural season for the youngest-ever age group in the Prince George Youth Soccer Association. The earliest age to register for youth soccer in Prince George was lowered from 5 to 3 years after countless inquiries about the availability of soccer for the youngest player. Not even the PGYSA executive could anticipate the overwhelming interest in the 3-4 year-old age group.

“We started with 100 went to 180, 200 to 250, we ended up with 300 players registered,” PGYSA mini director Peter Brbot said.

“It has gone awesome these kids are the future of our association.”

Teams consist of boys and girls with one hour sessions scheduled on Sunday at Rotary fields.

“It is one of the neatest things you will ever see, 3 and 4 year-olds running around chasing the ball.” Brbot said.
