Treasure Cove Wants 175 MORE Slots

There is a special meeting of Prince George City Council tomorrow night, and the number one item on the agenda  is  a rezoning application for the Treasure Cove Casino.

The application calls for  a change in wording to allow another 175 slot machines to the site.  That would mean there would be 575 slot machines at Treasure Cove, and  when the new gaming centre comes on stream, a further 100 slot machines in the downtown core.

The plan would see the  extra 175 slots  put into the existing show lounge,  a  buffer "berm"  reduced to allow for angle parking,  a new  sound protective wall to be added to the berm,  and in  future,  a new show lounge would be constructed.

The staff is recommending  the first two readings for the project which would send the matter to a public hearing.

" THE buffer berm"...the one that already exists.... they now want to reduce and throw up a wall? I don`t live near there and don`t frequent the place but this sounds like expansion to bring in more cash. Although I am not against growth, I kinda wunder what the "wall" would look like.
What a laugh!!!!!!! Actually quite sad.

I recall very distinctly at the time when the place was not constructed yet but they were promoting the plans. Several people who had seen the proposal prior to it being released to the public stated that there will be a private performing arts centre built in PG. I didn’t believe a word. It turned out what they were talking about is the show lounge, which at that time was to include a second floor balcony.

When I discovered what it was, I really had to wonder at the little knowledge people in relatively important positions in this city really have about some of the things they have to deal with. I mean this was a small room, not even comparable to Las Vagas or Reno show lounges with tables and a proper stage and all the trimmings and then some.

So now they want to use it for slots. Is anyone surprised? Maybe if we get more slots allowed in the community we should be looking at reserving them for a competitor. Why should Treasure Cove be the only game in town? Why can’t the facility subsidize performances as a loss leader?

When they started they were going to have acts from Canada wide each weekend. I would be happy if they had a good act once every four weeks and provide the space to more regional groups on alternate four week basis.

What is the bigger picture. 10 years down the road, will the Treasure Cove be twice the size? We are expecting Canfor and other industries to contribute to the community. What is the Treasure Cove contributing other than what they have to through the Gaming Commission? In my view they can at the least contribute a strong effort at providing show lounge type of entertainment.
NO! NO! NO!, and if city council let the public decide,I bet it wouldn't fly.
So instead they will ask in a public hearing and ignore the outcome if it is not to their liking.
But I am betting council supports it.
They march to the sound of their OWN drum.
This casino, like others are parasites who feed on weakness and addictions.
If council is so concerned about quality of life, they would refuse to even discuss adding more slots!

175 slots. John Major probably gets the green light at council.

BUT, I bet it would be a thumbs down if there was going to be 175 slots divided amongst the pubs in town! I bet the council would have a fit if local businesses got in on the action.

It is interesting Looto BC wants more money but is staying away from local pubs, well all except John's pub. If you gamble in this town the money gets divided up between Looto BC, the City and John. Pretty cozy setup. They all seem to get along so well too!

Looto BC.......................excellent!
Why are we having a special meeting on this. How does Treasure Cove rate this special attention;

This is another prime example of why we need to get rid of the present Mayor and Council. Much to cozy with vested interest groups.

The Mayor flew down to the Casino in Richmond on Friday to receive an award for the City, however I never did hear what the award was. Anyone know?
Actually, gaming money goes to support many different efforts around town including Hospice House, Theatre Northwest, Rotary, the Exhibition etc,

The idea of spreading out some machines into local bars is somewhat appealing...
The money that goes to Hospice House, Theatre Northwest, Rotary, the Exhibition etc, is just pocket change compared to what the other three get. Anything spent outside the take of the City, Looto BC and John keep is spent grudgingly. It is wrote off as PR money. The city only got in on the action because the city could increase the take for the vested interests. Just like running a brothel or what ever, take on a partner if the organization can expand their take or operate with more impunity.

Now the city is in and Looto BC expects results.
