Property said to be the preferred choice for a new Safeway Store in Prince George

Canada Safeway, which left the city after closing its only location on Massey Drive, is looking at returning to the city of Prince George.

It is known that the company is in discussion with a developer who is in the final stages of closing a deal for the purchase of the property across from Super Store on Highway 16 west.

The area in question is now occupied by the men’s baseball diamond.

City Hall has confirmed that a deal is being finalized with a developer but say they are unaware as to who the developer is trying to entice to occupy the space.

It is known that Safeway’s first choice for a location is the subject property.

The property sits near the present Prince George Golf and Country club which also has  had an offer put to it for just over $ 13.5 million dollars for the Golf course and nearby associated property.

The developer in that case would like to develop the property into retail and residential lots.

The Golf course meantime has been looking at the property below Ridgeview Dr. on Foothills Boulevard.

I hear just around the corner Target might be buying Zellers. IMO that will make a competitive strip of retailers along that stretch of highway; especially with the grociery side of things.

I wonder if they will back fill the area of the golf course with some nice hotels, and maybe some of that ground level store front residential units Owl was talking about....
Competition is good-if it is good competition!!!!!
I will be glad to see Safeway back in the city.
And a big hello to Target also-if that comes to pass.
Looks like this city might take a big spurt. Will be nice-and welcome to all.
Anybody out there remember how Safeway treated it's employees a few years back when they left Prince George?
