RCMP Saying Little About Hwy 16 'Incident'
By 250 News
RCMP say an investigation is ongoing into an incident that closed Highway 16 earlier this week, but few other details are being offered at this time.
Constable Annie Linteau says the highway was closed briefly between New Hazelton and Moricetown on Tuesday evening. "Unfortunately, due to the sensitivity of the investigation, we're not able to provide further information at this time."
"We're hoping that the media will cooperate with us, we're not releasing too (many) details for safety reasons and we have no information that would lead us to believe that the public may be at risk, but we have good reasons at this time to not say too much regarding the incident."
Constable Linteau says no one is in custody, at this point, and when asked if anyone was injured she says, "No one from the public was hurt."
"Basically 'We're not providing further information' is the message - we're conducting an investigation, there was a brief closure of Highway 16 on the 26th and that's basically as much as we want out there at this time for reasons that we can't release."
