Healing Walk To Begin On Highway of Tears
By 250 News
Audrey Auger will leave Prince Rupert at sunrise this morning, beginning what she expects to be a physically, emotionally, and spiritually challenging walk along Highway 16 to Prince George.
Auger’s ’Healing Walk’ will take her along the 800-kilometre, so-called "Highway of Tears" where at least 11 women have been murdered or gone missing since 1990.
Her 14-year-old daughter, Aielah Saric-Auger, was one of the route’s victims. The teen’s body was discovered in February of 2006 near Tabor Mountain, east of Prince George, one week after she was last seen in the city.
Audrey Auger says she’s walking to raise awareness in communities along the route and across the country and she’s dedicating her walk to all the families "who are experiencing the same pain I am right now."
Several teens and young adults are planning to make the journey with her.
