The RCMP has been asked to conduct an investigation into the shooting of a woman in Edmonton by Edmonton police last Friday evening.
In a news release,  Edmonton Police said they had been called to the scene of a landlord and tenant dispute when a woman, believed to be armed with a knife, approached a female officer in a threatening manner.
A male partner shot the woman, who is now in stable condition in hospital in Edmonton.
RCMP spokesman in Edmonton, Mountie Cpl. Wayne Oakes, says it has become quite common for outside police agencies to be called in to investigate police related shootings. Oakes says RCMP officers are impartial while investigating fellow officers, he said "It is something we do every day. They (police) do that in a diligent, open minded manner, which is their goal."
In the case of the October 2005 RCMP shooting  death of Ian Bush in Houston, the New Westminster police recommended no charges be laid after investigating the matter.

I don't recall seeing in the media that the bush matter was investigated by the new west police......
Cops stick together, regardless of what force their on. Ever see a police funeral? This is almost insulting as having the RCMP investigate itself.

Oh really? Delta police recently charged a coquitlam rcmp member with a range of offences...so I think cops will stick together when they have to come together to deal with criminal elements but when one of their own crosses the line into criminal behavior, then that person is on their own.
Did he get caught on tape?
Edmonton policeman alleged to have shot, gonna get three months before he is interviewed? Happens, you know.
"...when a woman, believed to be armed with a knife, approached a female officer in a threatening manner.

I am sure that she (the woman with the thing believed to be a knife) was being yelled at by the officers to drop whatever she had in her hand!

*Shoot to disable* is more reasonable than *shoot to kill* - so the Edmonton police acted properly and according to what they had been taught to do in a case like the one above.

police are trained to shoot at centre mass in a reactive situation and centre mass means most of the important vital organs in order to stop the assailant.

There is no such thing in the real world as shoot to disable when someone is charging at ;you with a knife.

The edmonton member's aim was probably obstructed by his partner's position or something else.
