Prince George House, the office that was open in Canada Place in Vancouver is closing.

It had been opened nearly two years ago, and was to be operated by volunteers.  The idea was to have a place to promote  Prince George  when  holding meetings with potential investors or developers in  Vancouver.

Initiatives P.G. CEO  Gerry Offet  says the cost  of having the  office open was $22 thousand a year.  The return  wasn't matching the  cost of the investment so  the office will be closed.

Councillor Don Zurowski congratulated Initiatives Prince George for having the maturity to make  the decision on  closing P.G. House "There's nothing wrong with trying it for a while, if it pays a return on investment great,  and if there is a better way of  doing, that great.".

ha ha, oops.
This is the usual **BS** you get from City Hall and Initiatives Prince George. When this idea was first suggested a number of people in Prince George said that it was a bad idea and that it wouldnt fly. They of course were tagged as being negative.

Now two years and $44,000.00 later it turns out that no one used the office and in fact it was a stupid idea. Does anyone get called on the carpet for their inane decisions. Of course not. In fact they get credit for closing the office down.

This in effect gives you a good insight into how this City and its offspring operate. You get credit for a bad idea, and then you get credit again when you discontinue the bad idea. Never do you get hauled onto the carpet and get fired for making mistakes.

If Zurowski runs for Mayor you can rest assured he will not have my vote. As far as Im concerned he is no more that a minnie Kinlsley. He will continue to cost this City millions in tax dollars.

Palopu..........with your approach nothing would ever be tried, nothing would ever be risked .....and nothing would ever be done. Every single thing ever tried has had its naysayers. There were many who said Expo '86 was a horrible idea, there were many who said that a university in the north was nuts. You cannot succeed unless you risk failure!
skabowl. I have tried a number of things over the years. Some have cost me big money and on some I made a dollar.

Get this>> It was my idea and my money. Win, Lose, or Draw.

These Cowboys are hell bent on spending taxpayers money, with no risk attached to themselves, and no penalty if they screw up. In other words no accountability.

Its not up to the the City of Prince George to be taking risks with taxpayers money. Their job is to run the City and look after the needs of taxpayers. They seem to have lost their way, as they are now in Real Estate, Gambling, Hockey, and Investments, however they are having trouble with reducing costs, taxes, and paving roads, and looking after infrastructure.

For your information the University in the North is in fact a failure. The problem is that the politicians, and local yokels do not have the wherewithal to admit it.

Enrolments have been flat for the last five years. They have just gone through a big cost reduction to balance their budget, and guess what. Its all based on wishful thinking that they will get more students this year than last year, however there is absolutley nothing to indicate that they will.

There never was enough people in the North Central Interior to support a University and with a population forcast of 1.5 to 2 percent in the region for the next 20 years it doesnt look good.

Just because you spend $100 Million per year to run a University with over 750 people getting fat ass cheques on taxpayers money, doesnt make it a success.

Remember who ran Expo 86 and made it a success. (((Jimmy Pattison))) not some high paid, low producing politicianj, or civial servant.

I question whether $22 thousand annually was the true cost involved with this project. I imagine there were other significant costs involved including transportation to Vancouver for IPG staff, meals, catering, accommodation for IPG people when required to spend the night in downtown Vancouver.
Sure would be nice to get the full story on this one
I agree trueblue2
And I agree with Palopu!
If it hadn't been for Jimmy Pattison taking control of Expo 86,it would have ended up a mess!!!
I don't think he did it because he wanted too, more likely because he KNEW it would bomb!
That's what happens when the homework is not done!
