Northern Health has issued a tender call on a renovation project at Wrinch Memorial Hospital in Hazelton to add six new residential care beds for seniors.

The budget for the renovation project is $200,000. Northern Health has received funding from the Government of British Columbia through its capital funding allocation.

"This is a great step forward towards enhancing patient care for seniors," said MLA Dennis MacKay. "The renovation at Wrinch Memorial will be a tremendous asset to Hazelton and the surrounding communities."

"These new beds will provide improved care for seniors who can no longer live independently, and will enhance the range of health services that we offer to all seniors in Hazelton" said Judy Wass, on behalf of the Northern Health Board.

Proponents will have until late July to submit bids to be reviewed by Northern Health. Construction is scheduled to start in August, with completion early in the fall.

A sod-turning ceremony in Prince Rupert yesterday, officially kicked off construction on a $20-million dollar seniors facility.
