Summer CounterAttack Gets Underway
By 250 News
Summer is here and the heat is on...especially if you choose to drink and drive.
So says the Prince George RCMP's Municipal Traffic Section as it announces the start of a province-wide Summer CounterAttack campaign - beginning today and running through to August 15th.
Sergeant Guy Tremblay says impaired driving remains the number one criminal cause of death in Canada, despite progress made since the CounterAttack program was first introduced in 1977.
"More than 120 people died last year as a result of motor vehicle collisions involving impaired driver - this is unacceptable," says Sergeant Tremblay. "When are we going to learn? The ultimate goal of the campaign is that everyone has a safe and happy summer, so we're stepping up CounterAttack roadchecks during July and August."
Tremblay says if alcohol is part of your summer activities, plan ahead for a safe ride home:
- Don't bring your vehicle
- Arrange for a ride (transit, taxi, friend or family member)
- Never get in a vehicle with an impaired driver
- There is no quick way to sober up
- Separate driving from drinking
