Train Crash Human Error
By 250 News
The CN train collision on the east side of the Fraser River in Prince George on the weekend, was the result of human error.
That much CN Spokesperson Kelli Svendsen can say, however, she can neither confirm nor deny that the manager involved has been relieved of duties. “We do not discuss individual discipline or consequences of discipline of individual employees.”
While Svendsen will only say the collision was the result of employee error, beyond that, the Transportation Safety Board is in charge of the investigation.
Saturday morning, two CN trains collided on the tracks on the east side of the Fraser River, directly across from Paddle Wheel Park. The trains were carrying lumber and fuel. The resulting fire sent a column of smoke into the Air that could be seen for miles. While some fuel may have leaked, the Ministry of the Environment is satisfied it burned off. Booms were set up to contain any spill, but the Ministry officials say there had been no evidence of any spill.
There were no injuries in the collision

I would like to see quicker response by Transport Canada, and much heftier fines if not suspensions for CN and for companies like CN.
CN is the largest railway in Canada and North America, and it should be setting the example of how to run a large profitable railway. Instead it shows us how to get away with ruining the enviroment. I would like to see CN reduced to limited allowable use of the railway lines until they can have an accident free month or something, because as it stands now, CN seemingly do not know how to keep the trains on the tracks, nor do they seem to care at what damage to our enviroment they cause. In the last 4 months there have been 4 accidents by CN in BC alone. This is unacceptable. A responsible company would be more concerned and would be looking for ways to fix things, not waiting for a slap on the wrist by Transport Canada to motivate change.
