Quesnel RCMP Advise Women to be Alert and Aware

Quesnel RCMP are advising women be extra careful after a third incident involving a suspect who is described as a white male aged 50 – 60 years old.
The latest incident involved a teenaged girl on Friday night. The girl approached a vehicle near the river walk trail at the end of Bowron Street near Murphy Street in Quesnel. She approached the truck and asked the driver for a cigarette. The man lunged toward her and fondled her. When the girl tried to get away, the passenger door on the truck was slammed on her hand. She suffered cuts and bruises.
While Quesnel RCMP say they don’t know if this incident is linked to two other recent cases, they are concerned. July 10th at Ten Mile Lake Beach, a white male, aged 50-60 was hiding behind some bushes watching some children, when confronted by adults, he fled the scene. On July 27th a woman was walking the trail near the Wilma Hansen Memorial Park when she was grabbed by a man. She was able to escape unharmed. The suspect was described as white, aged 50 – 60.
Quesnel RCMP say women must be aware and alert to their surroundings at all times and must not put themselves into a vulnerable position either by approaching strangers in the darks, walking local trails alone, or getting intoxicated.
Police are also asking the public to keep an eye open for suspicious vehicles near parks or trails or secluded spots, or in places where the driver or occupant appears to be watching women or children.
