A Provincial environmental assessment certificate has been  granted for a wind generated energy project  southwest of Dawson Creek.

The Bear Mountain Wind Limited Partnership  (Victoria-based Aeolis Wind Power Corporation, Alberta-based AltaGas Income Trust, and Dawson Creek-based Peace Energy Cooperative)  project would produce 120 megawatts of power.  That’s enough to  provide electricity for 38 thousand homes.

The project consists of up to 57 wind turbine generators on the Bear Mountain ridge top and carries capital costs of of about $240 million dollars.

While there are still federal  approvals, and  various licenses and permits to be granted,  if the project goes ahead it would create  between 60 and 120 jobs during construction and six permanent positions during its operational life of 25 years. It is estimated the project will inject up to $9 million in tax benefits to the Peace River Regional District over the life of the project.

There are  44 conditions attached to the certificate including provisions to set up a monitor and followup program to minimize  raptor, migratory bird, and bat collissions and mortality.

They should be putting these things everywhere!
What?? And kill a bat or bird? What about the caribou?

Just kidding, but it is so easy to create trouble and suck up years of delays for any new project these days.
