Police Call in Bomb Squad
By 250 News
The RCMP Explosive Technicians from the "E" Division Explosives Disposal Unit made a trip to Prince George this weekend to deal with a suspicious item.
A recently retired member of the Canadian Forces who had worked in Explosive Ordinance Disposal found an item on the corner of Malaspina Avenue and Domano Boulevard. He advised Prince George RCMP the item looked like a pipe bomb. Members of the local detchment secured the scene until the special Unit arrived at the site.
Nearby residents approached the officers on the scene, and they too said the item looked like a pipe bomb.
One home was evacuated during the disposal operation.
The item was destroyed by the Explosives Disposal Unit just before 8 last night, nearly 6 and a half hours after it had been discovered.
The team says they did not find any explosives or timing device, and there had been no threats or suspicious activity prior to the discovery of the item. Still, police say to be on the safe side, the item was treated as a potential bomb.
Turns out it was a piece of scrap metal.
