The increase in natural gas pricing is good news for companies that provide heating options.

Several of the Prince George  heating companies say they have noticed  a major increase in business since the price of natural gas started climbing this summer. “We are busier now than we have been for three years” says one gas fitter “We don’t normally do new construction, so the recent building boom is not the reason why we are being swamped.”

He says his company , like many others in town, has been very busy installing higher efficiency furnaces, and plenty of pellet and wood stoves, in fact, some say they have installed twice as many pellet stoves as they did a couple of years ago.

An average price for a pellet installation is about $3,000.00 and up, while pellets for the season will cost about $800.00

A wood stove and installation will cost about $5,000.00 although most people make that kind of move because they hjave access to wood so with the exception of labour to haul, split and pile the wood, the cost of the fuel is minimal.

Natural gas furnaces, run about $3,000.00 to install an 80 -90 % efficient unit, but there’s no telling what the fuel cost will be. Natural gas prices have already climbed nearly 20% over the summer (5 percent in July, another 13.3 this week)
