Prince George B.C. -  Prince George RCMP are warning the public to be aware of a furnace and duct cleaning scam currently operating in the city.

A 46 year old male, known to police, has been soliciting furnace and duct cleaning services in the Prince Goegre area.

He claims that he either works for Dust Busters or Dirt Busters. Both Dust Busters and Dirt Busters say the man does not work for them.
The man is described as heavy set, caucasion male, 46 years old, shoulder length brown hair, with heavily tattooed arms. He is reported as driving an older model 4 door sedan, grey or brown in colour.
If you have been approached by this individual please contact the police.

At least it's more proactive then collecting welfare.
This is an ew wrinkle on an old scam...
I am amazed that people still fall for it.
If you need your carpets cleaned, go to the company office or use the phone book...It may not stop all the scams but it will make it more expensive for them to operate.
Like most rats, this guy probably goes after the people most vulnerable in society such as the elderley. He probably is persistent to the point of intimidating the old folks into letting him into their homes for his scam.A very low form of scum for sure.
well, make him do the work first, then refuse to pay him if he does a bad job! turn the tables!!
So, is he cleaning ducts and furnaces, or not? If so, he deserves to be paid for his work.

If he is misleading the public to get the work, then he is breaking the law.

Or, is he just wanting to get in your house so he can steal from you? or???

Chester
How is he getting jobs ? door knocking ? is it furnace cleaning ? or carpets ? as one comment mentioned ? How can you clean furnaces and ducts from an older model sedan ? is there also another vehicle ? Does this guy work alone or with someone else ?
Someone must of complained to the police already and they seem to know who it is, so why don't they do something about it ?
If this is happening now, why would the police be waiting to deal with it ?
Steeliepete, if the guy is a fraudster, maybe he is collecting welfare and scamming, maybe that should be checked on eh ? That would involve police and ministry workers, wonder if they can handle the job.
Precisely Chester. What is the nature of the scam? Is he collecting a deposit on getting the work done or what?

Is this illegal? Exactly where does the illegal part come in?

I do believe the illegal part comes in when most of his customers are seniors, sometimes to old to fill in the cheques, so he fills in an amount for them after they have signed the cheque,$50.00 turns into $500.00, quite a differance isn't it.I don't know why they call it fraud, it is downright theft.
I guess he hasn't been in your relatives house yet ?
