Prince George, B.C. -  Vernon Kyle Wilson has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance for parole for   13    years for the death of Candace Marie Kalmokoff.

Wilson had admitted to killing the College of New Caledonia student in her Prince George apartment on the eve of New Years 2006.  He says they were passionately kissing,  she withdrew and  refused any further advances.  That was when Wilson threw her on the bed, strangled her to death then had sex with her dead body.

He then moved her body to an alley behind a 15th Avenue real estate business and tried to burn it.  Her body was discovered New Years Day.

The Defence says Wilson had been caught in a life of watching violent pornography but he  is an intelligent young man who can be rehabilitated. The Defence  wanted a sentence  with no parole for ten years.

The Crown says the act was violent, and is further aggravated by the fact he  caused an indignity to her body by having sex with the dead woman.   The Crown wanted  no parole eligibility for 15 to  20 years.

In delivering the sentence, Justice Eric Chamberlist  said Wilson had a Dr. Jekyll-Mr. Hyde type of personality,.  The Judge said while he beleives  Wilson  is intelligent,  he thinks he  portrays being a caring person, while living another life  filled with substance abuse and addiction to pornograhy.

The Judge also pointed to the  idignity to Kalmokoff’s body as being  a key  point in why the  sentence is what it is, "While  you may have remorse now for what you have done,  by  carrying out the final indiginity to her body,  you showed  that at that time, you had no empathy or remorse for what you had done. "

In addition to the time  in prison, Wilson is banned from owning a firearm for 10 years, must supply DNA samples and  has to  register with the sex offenders registry.

Possibility of parole in 13 years. Let's hope not, ever! Absolutely charming sounding fellow.
This man could easily be a pshychopath, and if that's the case then he should be locked up forever.
Rehabilitated??? Ya right. As if being addicted to drugs and sex is an excuse. Where is that poor girl and her family's second chance at life?

Defense: "he is an intelligent young man who can be rehabilitated"

The Judge : "thinks he portrays being a caring person, while living another life filled with substance abuse and addiction to pornograhy."

He could have given a sentence with no parole for 15 to 20 years but gave 13, instead of the 10 the Defense wanted.

People who know me will wonder what I was drinking or smoking when I posted this. The judge sure seems to have been under some influence and I can't put my finger on what it was. This sure seems like one of those times when this fellow should have gotten the maximum that could be given. I would love to see a psychiatrist's report on him. It seems to me they have some major work to do on him before he can be released.
13 years is a blink of the eye. This is a huge injustice for a horrendous crime. There should be a law stating that anyone that defiles a body post mortum should never see daylight again. Stick him in a hole 300 feet down and trow him left over scraps until he passes.
In the US this guy would have been finished for life and likely would have been sentenced to death (depending on the state). Why is Canada so incredibly soft on violent/sick crime? I can't think of anyone that would agree that this sentence is satisfactory? Canada could afford to lock up this dude and every other sick criminal forever. Imagine the jails we could have had for the money that was poured into the sponsorship debacle and the gun registry. Wasn't there a federal ministry that "misplaced" a billion dollars a few years ago? We could create tons of jobs and hold these creeps forever. Who cares if it costs a ton of cash? It'd be worth it. What's the rehab plan for a murdering necrophiliac? I'm pretty certain that there isn't one.

How do we change this legislation? How do we ensure that murderers get a minimum of 25 years and that with other extenuating circumstances that they are designated as dangerous offenders. There should also be a plan where they have to unequivically show that they committed to a life void of crime after release. Video/audio/gps tracking systems should be attached to everyone of them after release, not for a probationary or parole period, but forever.

Look at this murder suicide in Victoria. The dude was released after a series of bizarre criminal incidents. Then when he goes and murders four people the crown can't identify the person who made the mistake or even acknowledge that a brutal mistake was made. Those folks then return to their pretty little homes and families and sleep at night knowing they released someone who committed these horrific murders.

I honestly don't understand it at all.
The sentence is not where near enough for this guy. And I don't believe one minute the story that these two were "acquaintences" and that they were passionately kissing before things got out of hand. Why would a nice girl, who has one ounce of self respect - a great career in the nursing field in front of her, etc. even consider being with this looser. I'll bet the events were nicely concocted by his defence counsel and Wilson himself in order to try to mitigate the circumstances.
What probably happened? He saw her, stalked her raped her and then killed her. He probably never even met her before that night.
I hope he gets his just deserves in the prison system.
Yes its sad what happened to Candace, I do not in anyway condone what Mr.Wilson has done. My heart goes out to ALL involved.
But really...you all have your thoughts on what you think should happen to him for his crime. WTF makes you any different from him in the sense that you would like to put him 300 feet under and feed him scrapes untill he passes???Isn't that also psychotic? Who's to say you won't act on your evil thoughts one day???
I am assumeing you are thinking these thoughts with a CLEAR and Consious mind. What does that say about you?

As for the other comments on "he peobabley didn't even know her" you should do your research on the whole story.

AS I said at the start, I do not in ANY way condone what he has done, he will pay for his crime and probabley already is.

In these cases, everyone loses, she lost a promising future for herself and her family deprived of seeing all the joys and pains of life that she was supossed to have ahead of her.
He also has lost the same things, true he at least has his life..but what a life that will be, even after jail time. His time regardless will be LIFE, he will always know what he has done and he is the one who has to live with it for the rest of his life. He will no doubt get whats coming to him.

White Lightning, go play your violin somewheres else. Candace was on her way to being a wonderfull productive member of society when her life was snuffed out by Wilson, a sociopath. I agree and wish that this was the states and Wilson was looking at the needle instead of laughing at our justice system. He gets to walk in a relatively short time while the victim is buried and in several years will become a distant memory to the public en large. Its wilson that deserves to be worm food instead of the justice system spending 60K per year to look after his useless self.
Truly White Lightning, you are an idiot. From your posted response, i'd have to say you are on par with psychopath standards. Not only will the taxpayers pay vast amounts of money to incarcerate this murderer, he will be afforded more luxury than most of our less fortunate non-murdering citizens. For example, our war vets, our elderly and other persons living in poverty. Do us a little justice yourself and examine how u would live on Canada's old age pension. Now i wonder what is really fair. A bullet would seem adequate to me.

I'm with you dgdiggler. Isn't there even something in the bible that says "and eye for an eye?"
I have to echo the others on this one...sex offenders are the worst kind.
I wish him lots of sex in his new life at Matsqui Prison. POS.

I have to also agree with the sentiment raised earlier, the only reason this guy is still alive is because nobody has the balls to put him down. He has no redeeming qualities whatsoever, I don't give a damn how intelligent he is...all the more reason he knows how wrong it is.

I believe half his story....I believe that HE was passionately kissing.
I hear no Violins playing, Your the idiot if there are any here, You want to take things personaly and start name calling? What are you 12? Like I say all your morbid thoughts being posted on the web, it's people like you who we should fear as well. Your thought of killing another, an eye for an eye?? Is that not why we have a justice stystem so Psychos like you don't go around killing people because your right, deem yourself judge and jury...please. Well take my comments as you please, actually I do hear violins playing coming from you not me.
My comments are just my comments, mine arn't thoughts of killing people as yours are.
And at what point did you think I think its okay what he did????It's sick and sad but like I said before he will get whats coming to him, probably from someone like you. You sound just as psychotic as him
WL, Canada has a legal system not a justice system. Long ago the hand wringing bureaucrats who run this country decided that the rehabilitation of the offender superceded the protection of society.13 years for a psychopath who will eventually be released into an unsuspecting community?Very sad. Canada's so called system of justice has taken a turn for the surreal.
13 years later, Candace is still gone, all the hopes and dreams her friends and family had for her ended forever. This guy will continue with his violent fantasy life in jail and when he returns to society (cause he will eventully walk free) it will not be rehabilitated. The prison system does not spend enough time and money to effect change - the prison door is usually revolving. Why not life in jail for the life you took? That way if any mistake was made it is reversable unlike putting him to death. When you kill a woman in an attempt to rape her and then degrade her post, should that not equal the end of him living in our society? Judges need to have these guys released to live in their neighbourhoods - how safe would their female loved ones feel? Sad day that Candace's life was not given more value by the Judge.
White Lightning,

I just wonder if you would have the same things to say about him if it were your daughter?
Aptly put, anniem and schminkiegirl.
