With more than 1400 invitations  sent out, the guest list for the party to  celebrate the official opening of the Prince Rupert Port looks like a Who’s Who of Canadian Politics and business.
Confirmed for the Celebration are:
  • M.Brian Maher, Chairman and CEO of Maher Terminals.
  • David Emerson, Federal Minister  of International Trade and the Pacific Gateway
  • Kevin Falcon, Provincial Minister of Transportation
  • Top level executives of CN
No  confirmation on Prime Minister of Stephen Harper, although that is not unusual   for security reasons.
The Mayor of Edmonton,  Stephen Mandel and the Edmonton Economic Development Corporation have chartered an Air Canada flight that will stop at the Prince George Airport early Wednesday morning to pick up ( among others) Prince George Mayor Colin Kinsley.  That flight will return at 9:00  Wednesday night.  Cost of a seat on that flight is $1,000.  Contact  Initiatives Prince George  to see if there are any seats still available.

The  official  opening is set for Wednesday at 1:00 and  will be followed by a  community festival.  The  day will be capped by a  fireworks display.

Prince Rupert Port  Communications  Manager, Barry Bartlett says the project is "on time, and on budget".  There has been so much  interest in the  webcam images, the number of hits on that  link have made the system crash several times.
