The City of Terrace has been issued a five-year probationary community forest agreement.

“Terrace is a natural choice for a community forest,”  says Forests and Range Minister Rich Coleman.  “The city has a strong forestry tradition and the initiative and ability to build on that tradition."
“The people and City of Terrace look forward to the employment and activity this agreement will trigger,” said Terrace Mayor Jack Talstra.
The community forest agreement carries an initial five-year term, and grants the right to harvest up to 30,000 cubic metres of timber per year, on public forest lands within
the Kalum timber supply area.    After an initial term of five years, the agreements may be replaced with a long-term agreement for 25 years.
Community forest tenures are area-based, and give communities exclusive rights to harvest timber, as well as the opportunity to manage forest resources.
