    The  Highway 16 west corridor between Prince George and Prince Rupert  is going to  see improvements to  "mobile  communications."

Rogers Wireless  has announced it is  investing $10 million dollars  to expand its GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) wireless voice and data network.

Phase one will  bring Rogers Wireless service to Prince Rupert and Terrace in November of this year, with the towns of Smithers, Kitimat and Hazelton to follow throughout 2008.

    Among the services that will be made available:

    -  data services on popular BlackBerry devices;
    -  mFleet, an innovative fleet management system that tracks vehicle position and engine health in real time to increase operator safety and vehicle economy;
    -  and Second Voice Line Service that allows customers to have two phone numbers on one wireless device  so that business people can have numbers from two different area codes such as 250 and 604.

The  opening of the Prince Rupert  Port is a key factor in the investment  as  Rogers describes this as a key business corridor, with "dramatically expanding maritime traffic driving steadily increasing transportation volumes yearly along the highway and rail lines."

Too bad Telus would not do the same. Especially with Prince Rupert itself having that independent telephone company that provides such limited services.
Well I certainly hope they don't use a Hiway map to plot their next move... Hiway 12 runs from Lytton to Lillooet.

Boy, are the locals there going to be super suprised when that $10 million rolls into town !!!

And I can only imagine the Roger's people standing at the old Camel bridge... scratching their heads... saying... "wtf ????"

Blessings....
First, Rogers will have to have highway 12 lengthened north of Lillooet. That will make for a nice infrastructure project up the west side of the Fraser!
Highway 12? Just one example of the reporters for this news source not taking ten minutes to verify their information and proofread their articles.

The news gets posted here long before I ever read about it in The Citizen; surely taking ten minutes to check facts will not change that.
Sorreee !! you are right, however sometimes at that time in the morning a 12 begins to look like a 16, we apologize .
It is also nice to know that you all know were highway 16 is.

Nice to see this happen and very much needed!
Prince Rupert's phone/internet service is a dinosaur and should have been gone years ago!
Welcome to the 21st.century!
With the new port expansion,there is a lot of infrastucture issues that will need to change in Rupert.The sooner they start the better!
