Not content to  get his information from  what he calls "duelling press releases", provincial Labour Minister Mike De Jong will meet with both sides in the teachers dispute today in Victoria.  He is not optimistic that he can bring them together,  afterall, it has been well over a year since the teacher's conctract  expired and still no deal.

Teachers will start voting tomorrow on a strike vote,  second round will be on the 22nd, and the results will be announced on the 23rd.

Will De Jong legislate the end to a possible strike? He has made it clear  he is  committed to ensure students are in their classrooms and that their right to an education isn't  "isn't being held hostage or  removed by virtue of a labour dispute."

De Jong could appoint an independent fact finder  if that would help  move things along, but  in  De Jong's own words,  "There's very little reason to be optimistic at this point."

what a deal ol Gordi is offering the teachers. 0% over zero years. I bet every teacher is excited to make the same amount of money after gasoline and natural gas and every other cost of living has gone up. Message to Gordi, these are professionals not some rag tag group you are dealing with here. It is time to buck up pal.
