The joint panel reviewing the proposed Kemess North Copper and Gold Project has announced that they will submit a report to the Federal and Provincial Ministries of Environment saying that the proposed project would not be in the public interest.

In the Panel’s view, the economic and social benefits provided with the project are outweighed by the risks of significant adverse environmental, social and cultural effects, some of which may not emerge until many years after mining operations cease.

The panel recommends that the Federal and Provincial governments do not approve the project.

Hm. I would have thought a certain special interest group would have okayed the Kemess North, for a price.
metalman.
TOO BAD... WHITEY LOOSES AGAIN!
Some kind of country we live in. I wonder what the minority want next?
Whitey might have lost this one, but at least someone saved a lake.
Adverse social and cultural effects? For who? Once again we cater to a small special interest group. Pretty soon when you get rid of all the well paying jobs, the only ones that can afford to live here are the ones that don't have to work. Maybe that's the plan?
I don't believe for one second that Pat Bell didn't know the Kemess project would not get the go ahead.
And he was not the only one.
And if he didn't know,he is one damn poor excuse for a so called "leader".
The rumour has been out there for quite a while and I am not really suprised at the announcement at all.
It's what I expected.
Ok fine, the lake idea was a bad one, but what really gets me pissed is the phoney politicians who play games with the people of this province.
This could have been announced a long time ago.The political wonderboys in Victoria knew damn well it was not going to fly.
B.C. needs mining companies like Kemess.
We need mining period!
So is the B.C.Government now going to help find a solution and extend the life of the mine,or does the voice of a few speak for the economy of the entire province?
Maybe we just need a new government with some balls?
The expression "whitey", is that being used in a racially bigoted context?
of course ... why else would it be used? ....
Just remember its a "whiteys" signature on the cheques at the end of the day and the one who signs the treaty eventually.
