Private property? Gadzooks!!! No such thing in The Charter of Rights. So there!
what book are you reading from?
You may own property but you can not defend it. Anyone that thinks he is going to do something about a trespasser is going to be the one charged.
A couple of years ago the BC Liberals made some changes to help property owners get bums off the doors steps in Vancouver. But it only gave increased tools to the RCMP, the property owners can't do anything on their own.
If the property owner tries anything the court looks at it as if they assaulted someone in Walmart. You can wander all over private property and go in peoples homes and they can't touch you, just make sure you are gone when the RCMP arrive.

The only private property the owner can defend is stuff owned by the CN. Other than that do what you like, if you get hurt the property owner is in for a very expensive legal battle. Blame Trudeau, it's his vision of Canada.
Or, make sure they are not on your property when you phone the ambulance to come and pick them up. Chester
Once again the yahoos (bikers/tresspassers) win...
pity
And no, the gun handler is no hero either....
which is it...guns or dirt bikers not allowed within city limits!
Again another case of dirt bikers being discriminated against. This should be a hate crime (tongue in cheek).

It has always been the case that property nazi's think they can take any liberty they want with a dirt biker and they are in the right. It happens all the time from traps designed to maim or even kill the intended target with sharp sticks, wire ropes, and everything short of IED's.

These people always get always with it because they usually set the trap and then leave, rarely does one get caught in the act, and when they are it is very important an example is made of their actions.

That area has been a dirt bike meca for dirt bikers for more than 30 years, so any interface land owners should have expected dirt bikers when they bought their property. Dirt bikers don't hurt no-one, just make a little bit of noise for the brief moments they are around.

IMO the PG region really needs some dedicated off road access areas with some support of government dollars to accommodate. A couple of areas I'd like to see would be North Nechako from the cut bank West, as well as West Lake East to the Fraser River near town based on their topography and potential linkage with destination points. In the city it would be nice to see the Hart Scales to North Nechako Ridge protected, but that is mostly private land so riding time there has future limitations.

Problem is dirt bikers don’t organize by their nature and so will ride where they please with out the incentive of actual want (ie trails built) to ride in those area’s.
I think gunfire was an over-reaction to a non-situation. More a case of exerting sovereignty than solving a problem.
Gunfire within city limits was an extremely dangerous overreaction. Firing shots into the air is no safer than firing shots in a random direction. What goes up must come down. I can understand being annoyed by noise and intrusion, but that's what the police are for. I hope that SOB with the shotgun is deeply ashamed.
Let's go over to Satevis's house. He isn't going to shoot.
put up a fence ???
Exactly, put up a fence or paint a sign....

Defending one's property?
written by Chad XCer , September 24, 2007 (09:34:13 AM)
The North Nechako School were sold to a Chinese acupuncture school that has never opened.

Instead a trailer was allowed to be set up on the school ball fields and the shot gun totting 'land owner' is shooting his shot gun on the school property at dirt bikers riding trails that have been through the back side of those school grounds since before the school was built 40 years ago. As of today the fence is open along the entire backside (as it always has been) and no signs are up, so I see no reason why a firearm should have been fired in the school yard.

I would question the School District due diligence in the sale of the school yard and the city zoning and by-laws for allowing a squatter on a public ball field delivering shot-gun justice?

Did the fellow squatter with the gun take City rhetoric about dirt bikers too seriously?

Rightfully purchased to be a home....

Now first of all I live by this school and the ignorant people that ride up and down this end of North Nechako are very inconsiderate for ones property, they drive in the middle of the road with numerous passengers on one bike I seen 4 on one dirt bike to be exact, with no helmets, all hours of the day and night, and on the persons property, there are signs actually they say "PRIVATE PROPERTY ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK, I walk by the house every day to take my kids to the park across the highway. Yes this used to be a school but someone has purchased it just like a house, just like Haldi road school. Would you like people to do this to you on your property, this person had asked them to leave, I agree the gun was not necessary, but just because it used to be a school does that mean that noone has to respect their property? And they are not squatters this is their property, they even use the school as well. There are many trails that are along side the property and there is no need to be cutting through the property just to mess around. So ChadXCer before you come on here and give this information that you feel is so correct maybe just take a walk near these peoples property before giving incorrect information that you feel is factual. These people still allow us to go and let my kids play on the play grounds, so its not that they are being too serious, these people were just getting fed up with these people. When asked to not ride the dirt bikes on their property they wouldn't respect the property owners wish and they got fed up, I would have too, however I would not have pulled out the gun I would have called the police and let them deal with this matter, and the cops were there until 10pm at night was the last time I saw them, from about noon.
In response to guest account at the Citizen....

There is not a single sign that says 'no dirt biker on property.'

Even if there was a sign; leaving an open fence with well used trails of 40+ years that cut through the property is a sign that it is acceptable practice for a person to ride their bike on that property. When did the policy change? How is a rider supposed to know the policy has changed? If he told a dozen riders does that mean the other 2000 are supposed to know what was said?

A problem I see that is related is that this property was sold on a lie. It was sold not to become a home of a gun bandit property nazi, but rather as a school providing services to the community creating employment opportunities in the North. That is the reason it was given away for the mere cost of two neighbouring homes, but with 100 times the property.

The North Nechako School property was not sold to be a 40 acre residential lot. If that was the case it would have needed to be rezoned for residential purposes and should be taxed and valued accordingly. If residential ownership is the intent then the owner should be back taxed for the evaded taxes. If residential ownership is not the intent then the gun nazi should be charged with discharging a gun on school property.

As for the dirt bikers, that is another issue that is being used to deflect guilt away from the real crime that took place.
