The Board for Northern Health  has had its first meeting with its new Chair, Charles Jago  at the helm.

The meeting, ( held in Fort St John)  produced some positive news, with   Northern Health's finances  looking good.    Northern Health is operating with a small surplus through the first quarter of the 2007-2008 fiscal year.

The NH Board received financial statements at their meeting in Fort St. John showing a $1.481 million surplus. This is about a fifth of a per cent of the region's $558
million annual operating budget for the fiscal year.

"Our financial staff have projected a break-even position for the current budgetary year," said NH Board chair Dr. Charles Jago. "We are expecting greater hospital activity in the winter months, along with higher energy costs which will affect our financial position."

Loosley translated, the  surplus is expected to disappear, and possibly dip into the red ink  before the  winter season is over.

I just wish the board meetings were actually open to the public. To much secrecy and things going on behind closed doors with the NHA.

The Board meetings are open to the public, in fact the NHA asks for public presentation submissions in advance of the meetings. The next one is set for November, and I believe it will be held in Prince George.
If you would like to send me your e-mail (privately) I will send you the details when I get them

Well pardon my ignorance as I was denied access to a board meeting and was told they were not open to the public. I will check the NHA web site and no doubt be able to track down the meeting again. I will attend the next meeting then. Thanks for the update
