Prince George, B.C. - Six years after three-year-old Savannah Hall died,  an  inquest into her death will start today at the Prince George Law courts.

Savannah was found unresponsive in her Prince George foster-care residence on January 24, 2001.  She was transported to B.C. Children’s Hospital in Vancouver where she died on January 26, 2001.

Presiding Coroner Scott Fleming has scheduled the inquest to start today,  and run through the week .  If necessary it will resume next Monday, and is set to wrap up on November 2nd.

The five-person jury will publicly hear evidence from subpoenaed witnesses in order to determine the facts surrounding the death and will have the opportunity to make recommendations aimed at preventing deaths under similar circumstances in the future.

I recently sat on a jury for an inquest into the death of a child that happened in 2005.
It was pointless and actually served no purpose.
It was also gutwrenching.
I am still trying to understand it all.
While I cannot elaborate on the details,I can tell you that there should have in fact, been criminal negligence charges,in my opinion of course.
That's not going to happen, and recommendtions by the jury are seldom acted on to any degree.
What waste.
