GR Baker Memorial Hospital  is getting a new phone system on the evening of Tuesday, October 2nd, and early morning of Wednesday, October 3rd. When installed, the new system will allow for better communication with other Northern Health sites across the region.

During this time, the hospital’s main phone system will go offline so crews can finish the installation. The work will happen at night to minimize any inconvenience to patients and staff. The system will be offline for approximately 45 minutes, beginning at 10:00 PM Tuesday, October 2nd.

During the outage, calls placed to the hospital switchboard main number (250.992.0600), individual hospital departments, and direct lines for staff will not be connected. Callers will instead receive an “out of service” message. Staff in key departments will have temporary phones to use to stay in contact with outside agencies such as BC Ambulance Service.

In the event of an emergency, Quesnel residents should always call 9-1-1.

The upgrade will result in new local phone numbers for G.R. Baker Memorial Hospital, individual departments and staff.

Callers to most of the former numbers will automatically be forwarded to those new numbers until February 2008, when the new numbers are published in the local telephone directory.
