Provincial Labour Minister Mike De Jong has appointed the Deputy Minister of Labour, Rick Connelly, as a fact finder in the teachers dispute.

Meantime, the teachers will go ahead with their strike vote which starts tomorrow, and final results will be announced Friday. Prince George teachers will vote Wedsnesday.

The Labour Relations Board is making some decisions on the type of job action the teachers will be allowed to carry out. The employers would like to see a maximum 20% reduction in class instruction time. That could mean one day off per week or 20% peeled off each day.

In the past, teachers have refused to supervise during recess, refused to issue tests, fill out report cards, supervise detentions, answer phones or carry out any work for the school other than direct instruction in the classroom. There is no indication on how a possible job action would manifest itself this time round.

The fact finder is expected to submit some recommendations before the end of this month.

Would it not tax any persons patience trying to instill some knowledge in the heads of other people's children???
They deserve a 35% pay increase, and should only be forced to attempt to teach 5 hours a day.
In at 9, out at 3-one hour for lunch-that will do nicely.
We are not at the top of the list for turning out a multitude of rocket scientists in the north.
It will make very little difference.
But we will have happy teachers!!!
And likely NO shortage.
Does ANYONE out there really believe that teachers only work twenty five hours per week? Come on guys, give your head a shake!

You couldn't pay me enough to do the job they do...working with children can be a rewarding experience, but it isn't for the faint of heart, they earn every dollar they get, and as a parent of teen-agers, they also have my total respect.
Just think-all those "baby sitters" walking the picket lines.
Who is going to tend to these little darlings while Mom and Dad go to work????
Curses!!!!!!
How inconvenient can these teachers make life????
And for how many???
If they don't get their pay, Mom and Dad just might have to fork out a few bucks to another baby sitter.
Darn, they say--"Why Me?"
